Goodooga Central School Indigenous Games
On National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day 2022, Goodooga Central School will be hosting their annual Indigenous Games on Yuwaalaraay Country.
Hundreds of students and teachers come from schools all over NSW to participate in this unique event that showcases and celebrates Culture and connection to Country.
The Goodooga Central School children will be opening the Games with a traditional Welcome to Country Dance. For the first time there will be girls dancing as well as the boys, something the community is extremely proud to see. All the students will be in teams participating in a variety of traditional Indigenous Games. After the games there is a big celebratory barbecue and there is also a school disco to welcome everyone. Goodooga Central School has an amazing Culture Garden with signs made out of the local Gidgee Tree with Yuwaalaraay language engraved welcoming everyone. New flag poles fly the Aboriginal and Goodooga Central School Indigenous Games flags. It is fitting that such a fantastic event celebrating Yuwaalaraay Culture is being held on the same day as National Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Children's Day.
