Events and celebrations
Each year there are more than 600 Children’s Day events held around the nation. This could happen at your workplace, school or kindergarten, or in partnership with a local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation or community.
Ideas include hosting a morning tea or a barbecue, cultural dancing, arts and craft sessions, cultural exchanges, concerts and performances, storytelling, competitions, sporting days, games and activities.

Celebrating Children's Day
In 2020, hundreds of early years services, families and communities found innovative ways to mark 4 August, despite the impact of COVID-19 and lockdown restrictions.
"We had lots of fun exploring cultural dress-ups with Indigenous music and musical instruments, Aboriginal face painting and flag handprints, Torres Strait Islander weaving with coconut leaves, drawing Aboriginal symbols and animal tracks in the sand as well as Torres Strait Islander sea animals. We also did yoga, and learnt the Torres Strait language names through storytime with Aunty Tracy and Bala Fred from TAHIS Yamani Meta Family Wellbeing Centre." The Kindness Pandemic
When: 2021-08-04
Postcode: 3000
The Kindness Pandemic was established on 14th March, 2020 by Dr Catherine Barrett, to support people who lives are impacted by COVID19. The group grew to 550,000+ members in two weeks. Kindness won't make Coronavirus go away, but it is making many people's lives easier and bringing people hope. The Kindness Pandemic is underpinned by principles of Intersectional Kindness, or how we look out for people who were doing it tough before COVID19 and because of COVID19.
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to
land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
The event will ask our group of over half a million people to reflect on what makes them 'Strong in Spirit".
The event will connect with ATSI families and young people to bring their experiences of the theme "Proud In Culture, Strong In Spirit".
We will promote the activities on this website and ask for people to post pics/reflections using these activities.
We will develop a webpage to hold the legacy of the celebration of this day to remind us all the importance of celebrating ATSI children and families.
This event is online through Facebook, to allow national input, including from regional and rural areas and those who are in lockdown across Australia.
The importance of celebrating our ATSI children and families is about intersectional kindness and growing awareness.
